Chief Executive Officer: Mr Simon Westaway
Simon Westaway was appointed CEO of the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council in August 2016.
For the past two decades Simon has held a number of senior Head of Corporate Affairs function or executive corporate communications roles with some of Australia’s most prominent companies. These have been diverse, but centred on large players in resources and mining services; tourism, aviation and private health.
He was the former Vice President – External Communications at BHP Billiton, with group function responsibility covering media, digital, online, social media and publications. Prior to BHP Billiton he was GM Corporate Communications at global mining services leader, Orica Limited.
Simon has extensive experience as a senior Corporate Affairs leader in Australian tourism and aviation sectors. A former senior executive at Tourism Australia, he held the position of GM Corporate Affairs and Strategy for the national tourism agency with direct responsibilities for Government, Media, Stakeholder and Strategy. Prior to this he was a long serving senior executive from time of start-up at leading low cost airline, Jetstar, as Head of Corporate Relations. This included an expansive Australasia and SE Asia focus.
He was also a former Head of Corporate Affairs at Medibank Private Limited and separately Impulse Airlines.
Simon prior established Westaway Consulting, supporting a range of clients in financial communications and public affairs requirements before commencing with the ALEC.
He is married with three children based in Melbourne.
